Wetland Plant of the Week #14

Salicornia virginica

Obligate, succulent plant with rounded leaves fused to a fleshy jointed stem, salt tolerant and found in salt and brackish marshes.

Photographed earlier this week in Yankeetown, Florida.

  1. I remembered seeing an article on this plant a few days ago.
Here's a recipe for how to cook it and other coastal plants and foods

  2. Thanks, I wasn't aware of their use as food - have to give it a try.
